AI-powered intrusion detection is primarily found in the fields of cybercrime and cybersecurity, as well as artificial intelligence. The term describes the use of artificial intelligence to detect unwanted access or attacks on computer systems early on.
Unlike traditional security software, AI-powered intrusion detection doesn't just work with fixed rules but „learns“ independently. It analyses vast amounts of data, recognises patterns in the system image, and can therefore detect suspicious activities more quickly and reliably. This helps companies to protect themselves better against hackers and cyberattacks.
A vivid example: In a company, an AI-powered intrusion detection system monitors traffic on the corporate network. As soon as the AI detects that an employee is accessing an unusually large amount of sensitive data at once – behaviour that could indicate data theft – the system immediately raises an alarm. This allows security officers to react before any damage occurs.
AI-supported intrusion detection therefore increases security and is an important component of modern IT protection measures, as it can flexibly adapt to new attack methods.
