Evolutionary Algorithms (Glossary)

Evolutionary algorithms find their place primarily in the fields of artificial intelligence, industry and Industry 4.0, and automation. They are among the most important methods when it comes to solving complex problems with computers.

Think of evolutionary algorithms as a form of „artificial evolution“: just as in nature, where animals adapt to their environment over time, these algorithms use the principles of selection, variation, and mutation. The computer generates many different solutions and then „selects“ the best ones. These best ideas are then further modified and tested until the optimal solution is finally found.

A practical example: In industry, evolutionary algorithms are used to optimise manufacturing processes. They help to readjust machines, thereby reducing waste and saving resources. The big advantage: the computer can find solutions that no one had thought of before.

Therefore, evolutionary algorithms enable companies to find innovative approaches more quickly and efficiently – this saves time and money and ensures competitiveness.
