The term „optimisation as a service“ is primarily found in the fields of digital transformation, industry and Industry 4.0, and artificial intelligence. It describes an external service that helps companies specifically improve their processes, products, or services without having to hire expensive specialists themselves or develop their own software.

Instead, a company commissions a provider who, using special tools and expertise, makes production processes in a factory more efficient, increases quality, or reduces costs, for example. This is usually done on a cloud-based basis – meaning the necessary solutions are provided via the internet and tailored to individual needs.

A simple example: A medium-sized company manufactures machinery and wants to find out how to reduce its energy consumption. It commissions an optimisation service, which uses artificial intelligence to review all processes and make concrete suggestions, such as when machines should be serviced or how material usage can be reduced. The implementation of these suggestions then leads to measurably better results.

Optimisation-as-a-service therefore saves time and resources by utilising external expertise and modern technologies to continuously improve existing work.
