Neural Machine Translation (NMT) is a term from the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation, eCommerce, and Digital Commerce. It describes modern translation systems that use artificial neural networks to automatically transfer entire sentences or texts from one language to another.
Compared to traditional translation programmes, which translate individual words or short phrases, Neural Machine Translation (NMT) can recognise the context and meaning between the words in a sentence. This often results in translations that are significantly more natural and understandable.
For example, if an online shop wants to offer its product descriptions to international customers, Neural Machine Translation (NMT) can translate German texts into many other languages – and do so significantly better than older translation technologies. This way, a customer in Spain can understand the product details, almost as if they were written by a native speaker.
NMT is used today in services like Google Translate or DeepL and helps companies overcome language barriers. This allows business relationships to be built more quickly and easily worldwide, without having to hire expensive human translators for every language.
