Edge-native AI is at home in the categories of Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things, and Industry and Industry 4.0. The term describes a special form of artificial intelligence (AI) that is used directly on end devices or „at the edge“ of the network, i.e. close to the data source – instead of centrally on large servers in the cloud.
This means that, for example, sensors or machines in a factory do not have to send their data to the internet for analysis. Instead, a small but powerful AI system takes on this task directly on-site. This leads to faster decision-making and less internet traffic. Furthermore, edge-native AI increases data security, as sensitive information does not need to leave the company premises.
A vivid example: In a modern factory, a camera with edge-native AI can immediately detect when a product is faulty and stop the machine directly, without waiting for evaluation in a cloud. This makes production processes faster, safer and more efficient – a real competitive advantage for companies in Industry 4.0.
