Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are a term from the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and Smart Data, as well as Digital Transformation. They are among the most important technologies when it comes to the analysis and processing of images and videos.

Imagine Convolutional Neural Networks as a digital eye that learns to recognise patterns. CNNs are made up of many small filters that process image data layer by layer. They search for simple structures like lines or edges, and then progressively combine these into increasingly complex features until the network can, for example, distinguish between a dog and a cat.

A practical example: In a factory's quality control, cameras can use CNNs to instantly identify and sort out faulty products, eliminating the need for humans to inspect each item individually. This saves time, money, and leads to higher productivity.

Overall, Convolutional Neural Networks help companies to quickly and reliably evaluate large amounts of data from images or videos, thereby automating processes or developing new digital business models.
