The term Collaborative Economy is primarily at home in the areas of digital marketplaces, digital society, and sustainability and environmental 4.0. The Collaborative Economy, also called „Kollaborative Wirtschaft“ in German, describes an economic model in which people directly share, exchange, or jointly use goods and services – often mediated via digital platforms.
Instead of owning or buying everything new, the collaborative economy focuses on making better use of existing resources. A well-known example of this is car-sharing: through platforms like car-sharing services, people can use a car only when they really need it. This reduces costs and conserves resources.
The collaborative economy is becoming increasingly popular because it is not only cheaper but also helps to relieve the environment. Furthermore, it strengthens the sense of community, as people work together and benefit from each other. Digital marketplaces and apps make it easy to find suitable offers or users – whether it's borrowing tools, sharing accommodation via platforms like Airbnb, or working on projects together.
