Knowledge-driven robotics is primarily at home in the fields of artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics. This term describes a new generation of robots that can not only rigidly follow pre-programmed routines but can also make decisions based on knowledge and experience.

Instead of just following set commands, a knowledge-driven robot gathers information from its surroundings, processes it, and applies its stored knowledge to solve problems independently. This makes it particularly flexible and adaptable. Through machine learning, the robot's knowledge improves over time – it „learns“ from experience.

A vivid example: In a modern factory, a knowledge-driven robot can detect when a conveyor belt is blocked. It knows what options there are to resolve the disruption and selects the best solution. This means people no longer have to step in for every minor incident.

Knowledge-driven robotics makes production processes more efficient and helps to avoid errors. It is a crucial step for the smart factories of the future and an important building block for Industry 4.0.
