The term multi-scale analysis originates from the fields of industry and Industry 4.0, as well as Artificial Intelligence. It describes a method used to examine complex technical systems or processes simultaneously at different levels or „scales“. This means that both the big picture and the small details within it are considered.

Imagine that in a modern factory, a new material for car parts is being developed. Engineers want to know how the material behaves under stress. Using multi-scale analysis, they can investigate both the structure of the material at the microscopic level (for example, individual fibres) and the stability of the entire component. This is how they can recognise how small changes in the material can have significant effects on the final product.

Multiscale analysis helps to make better decisions and identify quality issues early on. This method is particularly valuable in Industry 4.0 because it effectively links data from machines, materials, and processes. This results in more precise predictions, which ultimately leads to more efficient operations and longer-lasting products.
