The term „industrial simulation twins“ is primarily at home in the fields of industry and Industry 4.0, automation, and artificial intelligence.
An industrial digital twin is a digital replica of a real machine, production plant, or an entire factory process. Using modern software and data from sensors, a virtual model is created on the computer. This model „behaves“ almost identically to the real object and can be fed with current data in real time.
This means that companies can simulate processes without having to stop or rebuild the real plant. They can see in advance how changes or errors would affect it. Here's an example: a car factory wants to introduce a new production line. Instead of directly modifying machines and robots, everything is first tested virtually as a simulation twin. This allows engineers to identify potential problems early on and optimise the plant before it actually goes into operation.
Industrial digital twins enable time, cost, and resource savings – and help make production safer and more efficient.
