The term „AI-based patient care“ is primarily at home in the categories of Artificial Intelligence, Digital Transformation, and Big Data and Smart Data. It is an important trend in healthcare, where intelligent computer systems – so-called Artificial Intelligences (AI) – help to improve the care of patients.
Put simply, AI-based patient care means that digital technologies support doctors and nursing staff in diagnosing, treating and monitoring patients. For example, artificial intelligence can analyse vast amounts of medical data at lightning speed and recognise patterns within them that might escape a human. This can, for instance, enable earlier disease detection because the AI notices peculiarities in images or patient data that indicate specific conditions.
A striking example: Imagine a patient comes to hospital with diffuse symptoms. AI-based patient care helps by comparing all available patient data, lab results, and current scientific findings. From this, the AI can make suggestions to the treating physician about which diagnoses are possible, or draw attention to rare diseases.
AI-based patient care also plays a role in aftercare, for example through intelligent apps that remind patients to take their medication or send warning signals if health risks are identifiable. In this way, artificial intelligence ensures that medical care becomes more individualised, faster, and often also safer. AI-based patient care is therefore a significant step towards modern, innovative healthcare.
