Streaming data analysis (glossary)

Streaming data analysis is particularly important in the fields of Big Data and Smart Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Digital Transformation. It describes an approach whereby large volumes of data are analysed in real-time as they are generated and flow through systems. This means that there is no waiting until all the data has been collected; instead, information is processed and evaluated immediately.

A practical example: Consider an online shopping platform. Thousands of users click on products simultaneously, add items to their shopping baskets, or make payments. Thanks to streaming data analysis, the company can immediately identify which products are popular, detect unusual activity (e.g., fraud attempts), or deliver recommendations in real-time.

In contrast to conventional data analysis, data is not examined retrospectively here, but rather immediately. This allows companies to react very quickly to new trends, problems, or opportunities. Streaming data analysis is therefore a key to remaining flexible and successful in the digital age.
