The term 'robot arm' is particularly relevant in the fields of automation, industry and Industry 4.0, as well as domestic robotics. A robot arm is a mechanical device that can move like a human arm – but powered by machines and often with much greater precision. It consists of several movable parts (joints) that enable it to perform various tasks, such as gripping, rotating, or lifting.
Robot arms are mostly used where monotonous, dangerous or very precise work needs to be done. In factories, robot arms assemble cars or put together components in smartphones, for example. They take on tasks that would be too tiring or risky for humans.
A clear example: In a car factory, a robotic arm lifts heavy vehicle parts and screws them together with precise force. This ensures consistently high quality and increased workplace safety.
Robot arms are now found outside large factories too, for example in 3D printing: here they precisely move the print head for complex components. The robot arm is an important building block of modern automation and helps companies to work more efficiently and safely.
