Quantum-inspired algorithms (Glossary)

4.4
(1205)

Quantum-inspired algorithms are primarily at home in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Smart Data, as well as Digital Transformation. They are based on concepts from quantum mechanics but do not use actual quantum computers. Instead, the principles of the quantum world are transferred to classical computers to solve problems much faster and more efficiently.

What's special: While normal computers calculate step by step, quantum-inspired algorithms can analyse many possibilities simultaneously. This makes them particularly powerful when huge amounts of data need to be processed in a short time, for example in supply chain optimisation or financial analysis.

A simple example: imagine you want to choose the best and cheapest option from millions of different delivery routes. A conventional computer would check all routes one by one, which takes a lot of time. A quantum-inspired algorithm, on the other hand, can find the optimal solution in a few seconds by considering many routes in parallel.

This technology supports companies in working faster and more efficiently, and in asserting themselves in digital competition. Quantum-inspired algorithms are therefore an important building block of digital transformation.
