Human-Centred AI Design (Glossary)

Human-centred AI design is primarily at home in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, the Digital Society, and Digital Transformation. It's about developing AI systems in such a way that they respect and support people's needs, desires, and limitations. Thus, the human being is at the centre of all considerations.

Instead of focusing solely on data or technical capabilities, human-centred AI design asks: How can technology genuinely improve people's everyday lives? The aim is to design artificial intelligence that is easy to understand, safe, and trustworthy. Furthermore, people should always maintain control, especially when it comes to important decisions.

A vivid example: Imagine a health app that uses AI to provide personalised dietary advice. With human-centered design, the development team ensures that users receive understandable explanations and that their feedback is incorporated into further development. The app could regularly ask how satisfied the person is with the suggestions and adapt its recommendations accordingly.

This is how human-centred AI design ensures that Artificial Intelligence not only works technically, but genuinely supports us in our daily lives.
