US President Donald Trump withdrew from the Paris climate agreement almost a year ago and recently instructed Energy Secretary Rick Perry to subsidise unprofitable coal and nuclear power plants. However, Trump's coal-friendly policies do not seem to align with trends in energy consumption in the United States. According to a Study by BP the US energy mix has shifted in favour of natural gas and renewables, and has somewhat declined compared to the previous year, ahead of coal and nuclear power.
