Ein langfristiger Blick auf die recorded by the US border patrol Arrests of illegal immigrants clearly illustrate that the number of border crossings from Mexico into the United States has steadily increased since the 1960s. Following a peak of more than 1.6 million in 2000, numbers have fallen sharply and are now at levels seen in the early 1970s. While around 304,000 people were apprehended last year, this fiscal year, from October 2017 to the end of May 2018, just over a quarter of a million have been apprehended so far.
