Computer Vision (Glossary)

(1707)

Computer Vision belongs to the world of Artificial Intelligence, Industry and Industry 4.0, as well as automation. It refers to the ability of computers and machines to „see“, recognise and understand images or videos – similar to the human eye. Computer Vision makes it possible for computers to automatically recognise objects, patterns, or even faces in photos and videos.

A clear example: In modern factories, computer vision is used to inspect products on the assembly line. Cameras capture the products, and the software instantly detects if a product has defects. This allows faulty parts to be automatically sorted out, without a human needing to check each individual product.

However, computer vision is not only used in industry, but also in autonomous driving, in medicine for detecting tumours on X-rays, or in retail for scanning goods. Thanks to computer vision, processes are becoming faster, more precise, and more efficient. This field is constantly growing and is becoming increasingly important for many companies to optimise workflows and save costs.
