Automated Decision Support (Glossary)

4.2
(861)

Automated decision support systems are primarily found in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, automation, and Big Data and Smart Data. This term describes modern systems that automatically support people in making important decisions, often in real time.

Imagine an online shopping platform recommending products that perfectly match your taste. Or a company using special software to quickly select the most suitable candidates from thousands of CVs. Behind the scenes, automated decision support analyses vast amounts of data, learns from patterns, and suggests the best decision. The goals: to save time and resources, and to minimise errors.

A concrete example: In industry, a system continuously monitors machines. If it detects signs of a potential fault, it automatically reports this to the technician, even before the machine actually breaks down. This way, expensive repairs can be avoided.

Automated decision support thus leads to better, faster, and often more objective decisions. However, humans always remain the final authority and can review and adjust the proposed decisions.
