The United Nations General Assembly Nations On Friday, five non-permanent members of the Security Council will be elected. In total, the UN Security Council consists of 15 members: five permanent members (USA, China, Russia, France, Great Britain) and ten non-permanent members, who are elected for a two-year term. All five permanent members have had 73 one-year terms (for Russia, split between the former USSR and the current Russian Federation). The non-permanent member with the most years and terms is Japan, followed by the two South American countries, Brazil and Argentina. Both Pakistan As have India, who have been disputing the contentious Kashmir for 70 years, spent 14 years, or 7 two-year terms, on the Security Council.
