The term „Virtual Teams“ is primarily found in the areas of Digital Transformation, HR work and teams, and Digital Leadership. Virtual teams consist of people who work in different locations around the world but are connected through the internet and digital tools. They don't have to be in the same office; instead, they can work from home, from a café, or even while travelling.
In such teams, various technologies such as video conferencing, team chat, or online project management tools are typically used to work on projects together. Collaboration is flexible and allows companies to access talent from all over the world.
A simple example: A company from Germany wants to create a new website. A graphic designer from Spain, a programmer from Poland, and a marketing expert from Austria work together on the project – each from their own location. They meet regularly via video calls, exchange files online, and coordinate via chat. This allows them to collaborate efficiently and independently of location. Virtual teams offer many opportunities for companies, such as cost savings and a wider selection of skilled professionals, but also require good communication and clear agreements to ensure smooth collaboration.
