Self-healing systems are primarily at home in the fields of automation, industry and Industry 4.0, as well as cybersecurity. The term describes technologies that are capable of independently detecting and correcting errors or disruptions – entirely without human intervention. The goal is to avoid failures and improve the reliability of machines, networks, or software.
Imagine a production line in a modern factory stopping due to a fault. A self-healing system would automatically detect, analyse and find a solution to the problem, for example by reconfiguring a spare part or distributing the workload to other machines. This way, production can continue without significant delay.
In the field of cybersecurity too, self-healing systems are very useful: if a vulnerability is discovered in the network, the system independently closes it or isolates the affected area before greater damage occurs.
Self-healing systems help companies minimise downtime, save costs and make their processes safer. Especially in Industry 4.0, they are an important step towards the intelligent, automated factory.
