Quantum error correction for AI is at home in the fields of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and Industry 4.0.
Quantum computers are considered the next big development after classical computers. They could make artificial intelligence (AI) much more powerful because they process huge amounts of data particularly quickly. However, quantum computers are still susceptible to errors so far. This is precisely where quantum error correction comes in: it ensures that such errors are automatically detected and corrected. This makes the use of quantum computers for AI safer and more reliable.
A simple example: Imagine an AI is meant to analyse huge production data on a quantum computer to predict errors in a factory. Without quantum error correction, minor disturbances could generate incorrect results. With quantum error correction, the system recognises such disturbances and corrects them immediately. This way, the AI receives exact data, makes better predictions, and can control production efficiently.
Without quantum error correction, the use of quantum computers for artificial intelligence in safety-critical areas, such as in industry or for cybersecurity, is currently barely conceivable. With it, however, this future becomes tangible.
