Maintenance-friendly robotics (Glossary)

(1684)

Maintenance-friendly robotics is particularly at home in the fields of Industry and Factory 4.0, robots and automation. It describes robot systems that are designed in such a way that they can be maintained and repaired as easily and quickly as possible. The aim is to minimise downtime and increase productivity.

Easily accessible components, modular designs and easy-to-understand user interfaces are at the centre of maintenance-friendly robotics. This allows technicians and specialists to react quickly in the event of faults, without the need for time-consuming disassembly or specialised knowledge. There are often also digital instructions or sensors that indicate the need for maintenance at an early stage.

An illustrative example: In a modern car factory, robotic arms are used on the assembly lines. They are designed in such a way that a worn joint can be replaced by a maintenance technician in a few simple steps without having to dismantle the entire robot. This allows production to continue almost without interruption.

Maintenance-friendly robotics is therefore a real plus point for any company that favours modern automation and reliability.
