It describes how all data in a company is centrally organised, linked, and managed. The goal of an enterprise-wide data architecture is to meaningfully connect and structure various data sources, such as customer data, production data, or financial data, so that all departments can access reliable information at any time.
Imagine a large company with multiple locations. Without a company-wide data architecture, each department stores its data differently – perhaps in Excel lists, various cloud services, or legacy programmes. This leads to chaos, duplicate entries, and errors. With a well-thought-out data architecture, all data sources are consolidated.
