Achieving Anything with Self-Discipline – A Story from the Neflental
In the Neflental lies the village of Farnwiesen in Immergrün. Gentle, lush green meadows stretch as far as the eye can see. Giant bracken ferns, three metres high, sway in the wind and look like a green sea. Between the thick fern stalks, wooden houses with woven walls hunker down. Herb gardens with fragrant lavender and colourful clover grow on their roofs.
The meadow gnomes with moss-green skin walk barefoot through the tall grass. Goats and chickens frolic in small enclosures. It is autumn in the Nefel Valley and the colours are particularly beautiful. The leaves glow ruby red and sun yellow. The sky is often night blue and the meadows shine emerald green.
Discovering self-discipline in the Lantern Grove
One evening, the gnomes met in the lantern grove. Colourful lanterns hung between tall, dark cedars. They danced gently in the warm evening breeze. Under the trees, the gnomes sat in festive clothes. They drank sweet nectar and laughed together.
Rosa Immergrün was also sitting there. She admired all the colours around her: ruby red, emerald, sunny yellow, and deep night blue. But she was thinking about something else. Rosa desperately wanted to learn to play the guitar. She had practised many times, but sometimes she became impatient. She wanted to be able to play a song immediately, but her fingers were still unpractised.
The decision
Rosa unpacked her small guitar from her rucksack that evening. She set herself a goal. „I want to practise every day, even if it's difficult,“ she whispered to herself. She knew that the other gnomes often played outside or raced goats. It would have been easy to get distracted. But self-discipline was going to be her new superpower.
On the first day, it wasn't easy for Rosa. The sun shone warmly, her friends called her to play. She remained strong, sitting in a quiet corner of the fern meadows, diligently practising her grips. Some notes still sounded a bit off, but she didn't give up.
Persevere with self-discipline
Every day Rosa practised a little more. Sometimes her arm would tremble, sometimes she felt tired. But she always remembered why she was practising. She remembered her dream of her own song. She used her superpower, even when the wind rustled the wooden houses or the calls of friends beckoned.
The other gnomes soon noticed. They admired her stamina. Even the elder gnomes, who had lived in fern meadows for a long time, smiled proudly. They knew exactly how difficult it sometimes is to persevere and pursue a goal.
On the grand evening in the Lantern Grove
As the festival in the Lantern Grove began, sparkling lanterns hung everywhere. People and gnomes appeared in colourful clothes. They drank sweet nectar and waited with anticipation. Rosa took her guitar and stepped forward. She felt stage fright, but she remembered her self-discipline.
She played the song she had learned. The notes sounded clear and beautiful. Everyone listened attentively. In the end, the whole valley applauded. Rosa beamed. She had managed it with her superpower. She wasn't at the top of the highest mountain, but she had discovered a new strength within herself. Self-discipline makes possible what first seems impossible.
