Courage for the truth in the glory of the Neflental
It was high summer in the Neflental. The sun stood high above the valley, bathing the landscape in glittering gold. The meadows shone like emeralds, and the crystal-clear rivers shimmered sapphire blue. Lanterns could be seen everywhere, dancing in the mild summer air. It was the joyous festival in the Bernblütenhain, which brought together all the peoples of the Neflental once a year.
The Golden Bern Flower Grove and a Secret Find
In the Bernblossom Grove stood the magnificent golden-yellow blossoms. Their scent recalled sweet honey and fresh summer rain. People and other creatures laughed, sang, and painted their faces with colourful earth. But one was very thoughtful: Rosa Evergreen sat at the edge of a small lake, staring at her hands.
In the morning, she had found something strange. In the moss near the wood anemones, she discovered a sparkling, sapphire-blue stone. Rosa Immergrün had never seen anything like it before. The stone glittered in the light like a hundred tiny stars. She quickly put it in her pocket, because she was curious. But her heart was beating very loudly as she did so.
When courage is needed: Telling the truth
As the day wore on and the festivities began, Hoko, the young mountain sprite, came running into the Bernblossom Grove, quite agitated. He cried, „I've lost my precious gem! It's so valuable to my family. Without it, I'm not allowed to take part in the Crystal Sound Ritual!“ The words wouldn't stop tumbling out, and tears glistened in Hoko's eyes.
Everyone was looking for the stone. Rosa Immergrün felt her stomach grow heavy. She was scared. What if Hoko or the others got angry? What if she thought she had taken the stone deliberately? But Rosa Immergrün knew that the right thing to do was to be honest – even if it hurt her heart.
Honesty makes one strong
With a thumping heart, she went to Hoko. In the summer twilight, she sat down with him in the soft grass in the bernblossom grove. Rosa Immergrün looked at her hands, then she looked into Hoko’s eyes. „I found your stone,“ she said quietly, taking it from her pocket. Hoko looked startled, but then he smiled and hugged her.
The people around the campfire listened. Nobody grumbled. Hoko showed everyone the sparkling gemstone and said, „Without Rosa's courage to tell the truth, I would never have got it back. Now I can take part in the ritual!“ The lanterns shone brighter than before, and the flickering of the fire was reflected on all faces.
Why honesty strengthens the entire Neflental
In the gleam of brilliance, the light is strong, and the colours dance. But the greatest strength in Neflental is honesty. Rosa Immergrün was afraid of the truth, but she spoke it anyway. Her words made her and Hoko strong. Because she was honest, the others trusted her even more.
Sometimes it's hard to admit when you've made a mistake. Or when you know something nobody wants to hear. But only those who dare to be honest can have true friends. And only those who speak the truth can free their own hearts and make the light in the elderberry grove shine even brighter.
What do we learn from this?
In the Neflental, every shining moment shows us that it takes courage to tell the truth. But honesty makes us all stronger – just as Rosa Immergrün and Hoko experienced it in the golden Bernblütenhain. Those who are honest don't have to hide. Those who tell the truth find trust, friendship, and the feeling of being part of something wonderful.
