The latest issue of Global Peace Index estimates that violence cost the global economy $14.8 trillion in 2017 – almost $2,000 per person. Unsurprisingly, that Syria ravaged by war was most affected by the costs of violence, at 68 percent of GDP. Following in second and third place are Afghanistan and Iraq, with costs of violence at 63 and 51 percent of GDP, respectively.
