Openness makes you strong: The path at Farnschattenpfad

In the heart of the Nefel Valley, a very special night began. Winter had a firm grip on the valley, and fresh, glittering snow lay everywhere. The frosty night possessed its own magic: when the full moon shone on the treetops of the forest and the stars sparkled like tiny diamonds in the sky, everything seemed enchanted.

At the edge of the forest ran a narrow path, the fern shadow path. Metre-high ferns bent over the path, forming a protective, green canopy. On their dense foliage lay hoar frost, which glittered like fine crystal in the darkness.

A strange light in the snow

That evening, Rosa Immergrün walked carefully along the fern-shadowed path. Her thoughts flitted like tiny snowflakes from branch to branch. Each snowflake on the ground shimmered differently, for in the long nights of the Frost Time, every snowflake in the Neflental received a tiny memory light. Thus, the snow carpet appeared almost alive and quietly told stories, if one looked closely.

Rosa Immergrün wasn't like the others. She dared to see the world through her own eyes. Sometimes she felt strange because she didn't always do what everyone else did. But today she decided to be proud of herself and bravely continue on her path. Suddenly, she heard a spherical ringing of bells from afar. The sounds were like silver mist in the wind and made her heart feel very light.

Encounter on the Path

The longer Rosa Perpetual travelled, the more stars flashed out between the fern leaves. The entire fern-shaded path lay in a silver-white light. Around a bend, she discovered a small Flossian, sitting shivering in the snow. His shimmering skin looked almost transparent in the moonlight.

„Why are you all alone here?“, asked Rosa Immergrün kindly, sitting down beside him. The Flossianer looked away. „I’m afraid of saying the wrong thing“, he mumbled softly, „the others think I’m odd because I like to sing, even when no one is listening.“

In the Neflental, everyone should be allowed to be who they are. Rosa Immergrün knew this. „You're not odd for liking to sing! Your voice makes the valley even more beautiful, especially on a frosty night like this.“

Openness makes you strong!

As the bare branches bore glittering crystal drops, Rosa Evergreen and the Flossian began to sing a song together. Their voices merged with the chiming of bells from the valley. They sounded brave, cheerful, and free. Anyone passing by the Fernshadow Path that evening paused and smiled, even if only for a moment.

Openness makes you strong, thought Rosa Immergrün. Because only when we dare to be ourselves can we encourage others and show them how colourful and different we all are. And so the frosty night on the Fernshadow Path became a very special memory for all the inhabitants of Neflental.
