Responsibility in the Neflental: Become an animal hero!

In the Neflental, there's a very special night. Some call it the Frost Night. On this night, snow lies on the meadows and the dark sky sparkles full of stars. The cold air is clear, and every snowflake that slowly floats from the sky glitters like a memento from times long past. The branches of the trees shine, as if the hoarfrost has painted them with silver. A wonderful, spherical bell chimes softly from the deep valley, and everyone feels that magic can happen on this night.

The Owl Watch and a big problem

The Eulenwarte stands at the edge of the Nefle Valley forest. It's a thick, old tree stump. For many, many years, an owl family has kept watch from this stump throughout the night. From there, the owls see everything that happens in the small valley. They make sure all the animals are well, especially in winter. But they can't always manage it alone. Animals need friends to look after them, especially when it's icy and dark.

A stormy start to the frosty night

Rosa Immergrün trudges through the crunching snow. She hears the faint hooting of a young owl. Most animals are sleeping soundly and warmly in the shelter of their burrows, nests, and holes. But the owlet on the owl perch sits alone and is freezing. The wind blows cold, and a few snowflakes land on its feathers.

Instead of just walking on, Rosa Ever Green pauses. She thinks: What can she do to stop the owlet from freezing? She remembers that responsibility for animals means looking and helping – even when nobody is watching. This is the moment when you can become an animal hero.

This is how you become an animal hero in the Nefenthal

Rosa Immergrün looks around. In the woods, she finds a soft patch of moss and some loose feathers that fell from the last storm. She collects everything because she has learned that every little thing can help. Slowly, she climbs up to the owl's perch so that the chick doesn't get scared.

„Here, snuggle into the moss and place the feathers on your back!“ she whispers, covering the trembling chick. But that's not enough. Warmth is also important. So Rosa Immergrün remains sitting quietly next to the young animal for a while, sharing her own body heat.

Through the snow, they suddenly hear a rustling. It's the mother owl. She thanks Rosa Immergrün for looking after her child. The two smile at each other because they know that taking responsibility for animals is important and that courage is always worthwhile.

The morning after the frosty night in the Neflental

The next morning, it’s a little warmer. The young bird is already flitting about merrily around the owl's perch. The big owl calls Rosa Immergrün over and tells her a secret: „Anyone who protects animals also protects the heart of the valley.“ It’s so simple to become an animal hero in your everyday life. Sometimes, all it takes is being observant and helping small creatures. In Neflental, even the quietest step becomes a grand adventure when you open your eyes and your heart.

What do we learn from this?

Keep an eye out for animals in nature. Take a look when you're hiking through the Neflental. Every animal, big or small, sometimes needs help. You can gather moss, find food, or simply offer warmth. And when the next frost arrives, then you'll know: you too can be a hero for the animals and help protect the magical bond of the Neflental.
