When it comes to the overall height of the Credit card debt When it comes to what's happening in the US, the most populous states are leading the way. California is in first place with a massive $106.8 billion, followed by Texas with $67.3 billion. However, when looking at debt per capita, it paints a different picture: Alaska is in first place. This is according to Numbers before, the Office of the New York State Comptroller published hat.
At the end of last year, the average Alaskan resident had a credit card balance of $4,270, over $1,000 more than the national average of $3,100. New Jersey is the second-worst state for credit card debt at $3,910 per capita, while Hawaii comes in third at $3,860. The South is better off, with Mississippi having the lowest average per capita debt at $2,020.
