Although the Saudi-led coalition in their Air strikes on Yemen moderne westliche Kampfflugzeuge and precision-guided munitions are being deployed, innocent civilians are still being caught in the crossfire. According to the United Nations, around 10,000 people have died in the conflict so far, two-thirds of whom are civilians. Due to the fighting and the partial blockade, 22 million people are reliant on aid, and the situation could worsen further depending on the outcome of the offensive on the coastal city of Hudaydah. Hudaydah is a vital port for humanitarian aid, and any disruption to this lifeline could put hundreds of thousands at risk of starvation.
Reliable statistics on the conflict in Yemen are known to be difficult to obtain. A charitable organisation called The Yemen Data Project has monitored the Saudi-led coalition's air strikes, and their findings help to paint a picture of the scale of the air strikes. Since March 2015, there have been a total of around 17,000 air strikes. The following infographic provides an overview of some of the targets attacked. While around 3,400 military facilities were hit, residential areas were attacked 1,543 times. There were 70 air strikes on medical facilities, 266 on educational facilities and 45 on mosques.
