A new United Nations Report gives an overview of the global dynamics in the fight against single-use plastics. The topic made more headlines than usual this week after A pilot whale in Southern Thailand starved, after swallowing more than 80 plastic bags. The new report details national regulations on banning or restricting the use of plastic bags and polystyrene worldwide.
The following map shows the state of worldwide regulation limiting the use of plastic bags. In several African countries as well as in France, In India and Mongolia, there are complete or partial bans at a national level. Other countries have introduced economic measures such as taxing plastic bags, including Ireland and Portugal.
