Living with confidence - A story from the Neflental
The day of the Blossom Watch always begins particularly quietly in the Neflental. Gentle mist lies like a veil over the fern meadows of Immergrün. Pastel pink cherry blossoms and lilac violets gleam mysteriously on ancient, mossy trees. Fine cobwebs shimmer in the morning dew. Mythical creatures dance like shadows through the tall grass.
Between the giant bracken ferns stand the homes of the Evergreens. The roofs gleam emerald green and on John Evergreen's roof terrace, the water of the Crystal Lake sparkles. Here, Rosa Evergreen lives with her family. She loves the fern meadows and the special morning light. But today, Rosa feels a little uneasy. It's the day of the Great Blossom Challenge.
Every year during the Blossom Watch, the young Evergreens compete against each other. They must tie a bouquet that shines like a rainbow in the morning mist. The most beautiful bouquet is displayed in the village fountain for all to admire. Many children in the village believe Rosa could win. But she is unsure.
„What if my bouquet looks too meagre? Or the colours don't pop? Rosa hides behind a fern. Warm light breaks through the sea of mist, painting shadowy figures. In the lowlands, small streams flow, over which pearly white spiderwebs shimmer.
Suddenly Rosa hears a whisper among the flowers. Then mythical creatures dart past – they float by like feather clouds. They hear Rosa's doubts and a little violet child says softly: „Trust yourself, Rosa! The strongest power is your heart.“
Rosa plucks up her courage. She goes over to the other Evergreen children, who are busily collecting blossoms: cherry blossoms, moss roses, and violets lie ready in small piles. Rosa takes a deep breath. She looks around. Everywhere smells fresh. The green morning light gives each leaf a gentle shimmer.
With calm hands, she gathers the most beautiful blossoms. She thinks about what the violet child said – and begins to tie her own bouquet. She only takes the flowers that she herself likes. Rosa ties the bouquet together in her very own way. No other looks like hers. The bouquet is perhaps a bit crooked, and two violet heads hang amusingly to the side. But the colours blend wonderfully with each other: pastel pink, lilac, and emerald green. The pearl-white spider's web gives the bouquet a touch of magic.
Finally, it's time. The Evergreen children place their works next to each other. Some bouquets look neater, others more colourful. Rosa feels her heart pounding as the village council member arrives.
But the councillor smiles and says: „Courage and trust are the most important things. What counts are the colors of your hearts.“ The blossoms in the valley begin to glow in the rising sun. Rosa's bouquet shines particularly warmly. She feels: her self-confidence makes her strong.
In the evening, all the Evergreens celebrate on the fern meadows. Rosa laughs with the others. She knows now that nobody has to be perfect. Those who listen to their hearts and believe in themselves are already very strong. Friendship and courage grow like flowers – side by side.
What do we learn from this?
If you're unsure, it helps to listen to your heart. Sometimes confidence is the greatest magic. Everyone can be strong if they believe in themselves. And sometimes even small violets help you dare to be yourself.
