Stories from the Neflental: Learning Self-Control with Rosa Immergrün
In the Neflental, residents are experiencing the grand summer festival, which they call the 'Glanzhoch'. The sun shines brightly and warmly. Its light glows in shades of gold and beryl over the fern meadows and the water of the lakes. The atmosphere is cheerful, with children and adults in colourful clothes sitting around bonfires everywhere. Lanterns drift silently through the air at dusk.
Rosa Immergrün is looking forward to the festival near the lily pad bay. This special bay lies peacefully on the crystal lake. Large, round leaves drift on the water. White flowers bloom brightly and fish glide quietly beneath them. Dragonflies with shimmering wings dance in the warm air. The colours of the day are incredible: sun-gold, sapphire blue, coral red and emerald green.
Rosa Immergrün is sitting with her friends on the bank of the Lily Pad Bay. The big race around Crystal Lake will soon begin. This surprise is fun for everyone, and Rosa Immergrün hops back and forth with excitement. But then she is played a little trick: someone hides her favourite stone from her pocket. A giggle is heard, and Rosa Immergrün realises how angry she is becoming. She would love to bellow or stamp her feet.
At this moment, a graceful dragonfly flies past. It settles very calmly on one of the lily pads. Rosa Immergrün watches as the dragonfly slowly moves its wings. She notices that the dragonfly isn't bothered, not even by the loud laughter of the others. It remains seated, completely unfazed, simply enjoying the sun's rays.
Rosa Immergrün is thinking. Sometimes things happen that annoy or hurt us. But we can decide how to react. Rosa Immergrün takes a deep breath and counts to ten in her head. She clasps her hands together and simply lets the anger drift away like a cloud in the sky. Instead of shouting, she calmly asks who has seen her stone. Her voice remains friendly because she knows: now is the moment to be in charge of one's own feelings.
Your friends notice this and are amazed. No one thought that Rosa Immergrün could remain so calm. Then someone taps her on the shoulder. „Here's your stone,“ says little Mia, grinning cheekily. „That was just a joke!“ Rosa Immergrün looks Mia in the eye and smiles. „Thank you, Mia. I've learned that I can control my feelings. That makes me strong!“
The sun sinks slowly behind the shimmering meadows and the crystal lake glows in colourful, iridescent colours. Pink Periwinkle and her friends race along, laughing. No one is angry anymore. Everyone feels how wonderful it is to be kind to each other. Dragonflies dance over the still water, festival music sounds, and pink lanterns are reflected on the lily pads.
In the Neflental, residents are noticing: self-control doesn't mean hiding feelings. It means understanding them and choosing your own reactions. Rosa Immergrün knows that everyone in the valley has feelings, both small and large. But it all comes down to your own decision. This way, everyone learns to be the boss of their own feelings.
What do we learn from this?
Whether sparkling lakes, dancing dragonflies or colourful festivals: sometimes things happen in the Neflental that surprise or irritate us. But we can learn to stay as calm as the dragonfly on the water lily pad. Those who know their feelings never lose courage – and gain many friends.
