This means China's largest online retailer surpassed its own previous year's result by 7.5 billion US dollars. For comparison, e-commerce sales in the US over the Thanksgiving weekend (Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday) in 2016 amounted to „only“ 8.3 billion US dollars, according to comScore. Single's Day is a day for single people, celebrated every year on 11 November. Eight years ago, Alibaba started luring customers with heavily discounted special offers on this day. Many competitors have since followed suit.
