Spectrum sensing plays an important role in the areas of Industry and Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things, and Sustainability and Environment 4.0.

Spectrum sensing refers to sensors that collect and analyse information from the electromagnetic spectrum. This means that instead of just measuring simple values like temperature or pressure, this technology captures how an object reflects or absorbs light, colours, or other invisible rays.

A typical example is spectrum sensors on modern production lines detecting whether food is fresh or contains impurities. Sensor technology, therefore, sees more than the human eye, helping to check quality and safety. These sensors are also used in environmental monitoring, for instance, to identify pollutants in the air or water.

In the context of Industry 4.0 and the Internet of Things, spectrum sensing enables intelligent networking and precise real-time process control. It provides the data basis for making automated decisions and utilising resources more efficiently.

Thus, spectrum sensing contributes significantly to greater safety, quality and sustainability in production and the environment.
