Changing the world with generosity – A story from the Neflental

In the Neflental, there are places full of magic and mysterious beauty. In spring, the valley is bathed in soft light. Flowers bloom everywhere, and the air smells wonderfully fresh. Rosa Immergrün strolls across the colourful meadows this morning. She feels the warm sun on her skin and hears the birds singing joyfully in the fern forest.

A special festival in the Silver Moss Grove

Today is a special day. The inhabitants have invited all the children from the Neflental. The grand spring festival is taking place in the Silbermoos Grove. The old willows let their long branches hang down like green curtains to the glittering bodies of water. Silvery shimmering moss grows on the ground, sparkling in the light like stardust. Little moss nymphs leap about quietly and laugh when they discover each other amongst the roots. In the Silbermoos Grove, everyone encounters the gentle magic of nature.

Rosa Immergrün loves this place because the large willow trees tell quiet stories. So she listens intently to the branches, collecting small, shiny mustard seeds from the mossy ground. Many other children do the same. A friendly old moss nymph calls out: „Everyone takes what they need! But don't forget to leave something for others too.“

The hidden violet glade and a precious secret

After the festival, Rosa Immergrün decides to go to the Violet Clearing. The violets bloom there so densely that they form a fluffy carpet. Amidst the violet and sunshine yellow, crocuses sprout, verdant green glows beneath the leaves, and fine pearly grey shimmers in the moss everywhere. In the centre of the clearing stands a statue. It is old, completely covered in moss, and its stone eyes sparkle in the sun's ray. Some say a spell resides within it, and those who are generous will be rewarded with happiness.

Because Rosa Immergrün knows the story of the statue, she places some of her shiny mustard seeds on the statue's mossy feet. Other children follow her example. They realise how lovely it is to share their treasures, rather than keeping them all for themselves. The sun breaks through the canopy, making the whole square glow golden, and everyone laughs with delight.

How generosity changes everything

Suddenly a gust of wind lifts the leaves high. The statue seems to come alive for a moment, as its eyes make everyone's heart glow. Nobody takes more than they need. Only when all the children have left the violet clearing do they discover luminous flowers on their shoulders that weren't there before. Each child now has a violet that glitters in all colours. The moss nymphs wave cheerily and say: „Whoever shares makes the world brighter and more colourful!“

So everyone realises how easy it is to change the world. All it takes is to be generous: a smile, a little treasure, a kind word, or a helping hand. And because generosity flows throughout the entire Neflental, not only does happiness grow. The friendship between the peoples of the valley becomes ever stronger. Rosa Immergrün walks contentedly back to her home, her heart light and joyful. She knows that generosity is like the light of spring – it touches everyone it meets.
