Self-discipline adventures on the fern meadows of Evergreen: learning patience in the glow of high summer.
It was glorious in the Neflental. The golden sun stood high in the sky, and light danced in gold and amber over the wide fern meadows of Immergrün. Between the giant bracken ferns shimmered the small houses of the Immergrüns. Anyone standing on John Immergrün's roof terrace could see the glittering waves of the lake, on whose shore the Flossians lived.
On this day, summer burned like a warm laugh over the land. Many colourful revellers sat by the water, wearing dresses in sun-gold, sapphire blue and emerald green. Above them, lanterns floated silently like glowing dragonflies in the twilight. In the midst of it all was Rosa Immergrün. She skipped with quick steps through the tall sea of ferns, which sparkled in the golden light that day.
A Special Task for Rosa Immergrün
A challenge awaited at the fern meadow. Today, Rosa Evergreen wanted to show how she could master patience. The elders had found a small fern bud. It was only to be picked when the flower fully opened in the sunlight. This was not easy at all. Many Evergreens wanted to take the sparkling blossom home too soon. But Rosa Evergreen knew that waiting was worthwhile.
So they sat on a soft mossy hill between the bracken. She watched as the sun painted golden stripes through the air. Now and then friends would stop by, laughing or tossing fronds into the air. Pink Periwinkle remained still. She breathed calmly and looked at the bud.
The Art of Patience
Many hours passed and it grew warmer and warmer. The leaves of the bud trembled slightly in the wind. Suddenly, Rosa Evergreen wanted to reach out. But she remembered the words of the oldest Evergreen lady: „Only those who wait see the true wonder.“ So she carefully folded her hands and sang a little song.
Other Periwinkles sometimes impatiently rushed past, calling out, „Why don’t you pick the flower already?“ But Rosa Periwinkle just smiled and kept waiting. She knew that every bloom has its own moment. She could still hear the lapping of the lake and the distant laughter of the Flossians. The colours around her grew ever more vibrant: sun-gold, coral-red, emerald-green, and sapphire-blue shone everywhere.
The Great Wonder in the Golden Light
After a while longer, the little fern bud began to open. First very slowly, then ever faster, it unfolded one petal after another. In the sunlight, it looked like a star of gold. Rosa Immergrün was so delighted that her heart leaped with pride. She had shown patience – and discovered the beautiful secret of the Immergrün fern meadows.
She waited until the oldest Periwinkle lady arrived. Together they picked the flower. The woman nodded with appreciation. „You have shown that self-discipline often brings great wonders. Those who have patience see more than others.“ Rosa Periwinkle felt proud of herself. She had gained not only a flower, but also an important lesson.
What do we learn from this?
Being patient is sometimes difficult, but it's worth it. Just like Rosa Immergrün learned on the fern meadows of Immergrün in the golden glow: if you wait, you can discover wonderful things and get to know yourself better. Maybe you'll have to wait sometimes and stay strong. Then you'll see how beautiful the result can be!
