The term MES (Manufacturing Execution System) originates from the fields of Industry and Industry 4.0, as well as automation and the Internet of Things. An MES is special software that helps companies to control, monitor, and optimise their production in real time.
Imagine you run a factory that manufactures cars. Without a MES, you would have to painstakingly keep track of the many machines, workflows, and materials by hand or with simple spreadsheets.
