Forgiveness and friendship in the Neflental

Spring is just beginning to bloom in the Neflental. Fresh greenery is growing everywhere, and colourful flowers adorn the meadows. The Sapphire Lake lies peacefully between the mountains. Its water is deep blue and clear, and if you look closely, the clouds are reflected on its surface.

Rosa Immergrün walks along the riverbank. Birds sing, and the scent of violets is in the air. Soon Rosa reaches the violet clearing. It is particularly beautiful here. Purple violets and yellow crocuses grow everywhere, and in the middle rests a statue. Moss covers its surface, yet its eyes gleam in the light. Leaves rustle very quietly, and a peaceful atmosphere spreads.

A dispute at Sapphire Lake

As Rosa gets closer, she hears voices. Two friends from Neflental are standing there: Lilo and Balduin. The two are always together. But today their conversation sounds loud and angry.

„That was my idea!“ shouts Lilo.

„No, I thought of the hiding place first!“ replies Baldwin indignantly.

Rosa stops and looks at them. She knows that arguments sometimes happen when people mean a lot to each other. But she also knows how important forgiveness is to staying friends.

An attempt at reconciliation

Rosa took a deep breath and stepped between the two. The wind rustled through the green leaves, and sunbeams shimmered everywhere like little lights. She smiled gently and asked, „Will you tell me what's going on?“

Lilo stamps her foot and says, „Baldwin used my hiding spot without asking me. Now my things have gotten wet because the dew fell on the grass!“

Baldwin looks at the floor. „I'm sorry. I didn't mean to destroy anything. It wasn't intentional,“ he whispers softly.

Learning to forgive at Sapphire Lake

Rosa points to the sapphire lake, which lies so still. „Look at this lake,“ she says. „It keeps everything that falls onto its surface. Even the clouds can be reflected in it. But with a little gust of wind, everything smooths out again. We can do the same: when strife arises, honest forgiveness can calm everything down again!“

Lilo and Balduin first look at the lake, then at each other. The colours of the violets and crocuses are glowing around them. Lilo takes a deep breath. „I didn't mean to be unkind. I was just sad because my book got wet.“

„And I didn't want to break anything,“ says Baldwin. „I should have asked you.“

Rosa smiles. „See? You've both made mistakes. But if you truly apologise and forgive, you'll remain best friends. Sometimes that's harder than just arguing. But that's the only way a friendship stays strong.“

Together on the violet clearing

The two nod. Then Lilo takes Baldur's hand. The statue in the middle of the violet clearing looks almost friendly as sunbeams fall on its moss-covered eyes. „I forgive you,“ Lilo says softly. „Let's find a new hiding place together.“

Baldwin smiles in relief. „Thank you, Lilo!“ Together they go to Rosa. They walk over the soft ground covered in flowers. The colours violet, sunshine yellow, and leaf green gleam everywhere. In this moment, everyone feels how beautiful the Neflental is when friends stick together.

And if you ever have an argument, think of the Sapphire Lake. Try to be like the lake, and forgive your friends. Because finding true friends also means forgiving mistakes. And together, everything is easier.

What do we learn from this?

Forgiveness can make friendships stronger. Everyone makes mistakes. If you are honest and apologise, you can end arguments. And sometimes, an even better friendship can emerge from it. Everyone knows this in the Neflental. You can learn it too!
