Green supply chain analytics is primarily at home in the areas of sustainability and Environment 4.0, Big Data and Smart Data, and Digital Transformation. It refers to the analysis and evaluation of data along the entire supply chain with the aim of making more environmentally friendly and sustainable decisions.
Modern technologies are used to collect and analyse data on energy consumption, transport routes, CO₂ emissions, and material usage. This allows companies to make their supply chains more environmentally conscious, for example, by choosing greener modes of transport or opting for sustainable raw materials.
A clear example: A fashion company uses Green Supply Chain Analytics to determine the emissions generated by transporting clothing from Asia to Europe. The analytics reveal that transport by train would be more environmentally friendly than by plane. The company subsequently opts for train transport, thereby significantly reducing its CO₂ footprint.
Green supply chain analytics therefore helps companies to make their own products more sustainable, comply better with legal requirements, and at the same time improve their own image with customers.
