Gripper technology (Glossary)

4.7
(1009)

Gripper technology is an important term in the fields of automation, robots, industry and Factory 4.0. It describes the technology with which robots or machines can grip, hold and move objects. Grippers are special „hands“ made of metal, plastic or other materials, which are shaped differently depending on the task.

A gripper works in a similar way to a human hand: it closes around an object and can hold it securely, transport it and put it down again. There are many different types of grippers, for example with suction cups for smooth surfaces or with „fingers“ for sensitive parts.

An illustrative example: In modern car production, robot arm grippers pick up individual car body parts, place them precisely in the right position and release them again - without any human assistance. Gripper technology thus makes many processes faster, safer and more efficient.

Grippers are a key element for flexible, automated production processes, especially when used in Industry 4.0, and ensure that machines can work in a versatile and intelligent way.
