A further important point is that if Google determines that a website's PageRank originates from spam websites, it will reduce your PageRank and, in the worst-case scenario, classify your domain as a spam domain. This will adversely affect your ranking in search results.

So, you must continue to meet SEO requirements whilst avoiding tactics that would artificially boost your ranking.
