Stories from the Neflental: Experiencing Empathy and Friendship

It's a time of brilliance in the Neflental valley. The summer sun bathes the valley in a golden light. Colours flit everywhere: sun-gold, sapphire blue, coral red, and emerald green. The crystal-clear rivers sparkle like dancing sparks. On the banks, the inhabitants sit and celebrate merrily. Colourful lanterns float slowly in the twilight. Music and laughter fill the air. Yet, amidst all this vibrant activity, Rosa Immergrün ponders something important: How does one win true friends? Can empathy help?

The starry meadow in glorious splendour

One evening, Rosa Immergrün decides to go to the star meadow. This lonely high-altitude pasture lies far above, away from the hustle and bustle and the revellers. At night, small, phosphorescent flowers bloom there. Their lights flicker like a starry sky on Earth, lending the place a very special magic. Rosa Immergrün reaches the meadow as the sun slowly sets, and the light on the plateau shines golden and warm.

Rosa Immergrün notices a figure by the edge of the starry meadow. It's Lumo, a young Flossian. Lumo is sitting alone, looking sadly at the sparkling flowers. Rosa Immergrün senses that something is troubling Lumo. She walks slowly towards him and quietly sits down beside him.

Showing compassion makes the difference

„You're very quiet today, Lumo. Is everything alright?“ asks Rosa Immergrün gently. Lumo hesitates at first, but then gathers all his courage. He says softly, „I just don't feel like I belong today. Nobody had time to listen to me at the festival by the river.“ Rosa Immergrün nods understandingly, immediately sensing how sad he is. She places a hand on Lumo's shoulder and says, „Sometimes it's hard to open up. But everything is easier together.“

Together, they look out onto the meadow of stars, where the luminous flowers appear in the darkness. The flowers remind Lumo of the hope that someone is there when you need them.

Empathy connects hearts

Rosa Immergrün listens attentively to Lumo and asks him his thoughts. She speaks honestly about her own insecurities. „You know, I feel alone sometimes too. But sometimes a conversation helps, and the feeling just goes away.“ This shows Lumo that empathy connects the two of them. No one is always strong, and everyone sometimes just needs someone to listen. Simple words and a friendly smile often work wonders.

Soon Lumo will calm down. He smiles shyly and thanks her. „Thank you, Rosa Immergrün. I think this is exactly what I needed.“ The two friends sit for a long time on the starry meadow and watch the little flowers continue to glow. Rosa Immergrün smiles too, for she feels friendship growing from compassion.

What do we learn from this?

Compassion, or empathy, is like a magic spell in the Neflental. Those who listen and ask honestly, who give others courage, win true friends. The star meadow shines particularly beautifully during the Glow Festival, because friendship can blossom there. Everyone in the Neflental experiences how important it is to listen to each other and to feel with one another. Those who help others feel richer and happier themselves. Even at the most colourful celebration under the dazzling summer sun, the brightest moments are those when hearts connect. And when Rosa Immergrün walks back from the star meadow at night, she knows: friendship always begins with a small spark of compassion.
