Courage for the truth in the Buchenwald of the Buchians

In the Neflental, the day begins quite specially. Today, the twilight run calls, and a magical atmosphere lies over the valley. Trees bend in the violet-pink haze. Over the beech forest of the Buchians, the golden autumn leaves dance like fire. No one wants to miss the twilight run! Rosa Immergrün is already awake early because she loves the stories from the Neflensee. In this season, during the twilight run, floating mirrors appear, and time seems strangely sluggish. Some show winter, while others suddenly show summer. A light mist envelops everything in purple, rosy, and grey-silver hues.

The Great Nut Festival

In the heart of the beech forest, the Buchians are preparing for the great Beech Nut Festival. They live in caves beneath the mighty root systems. Now everyone is diligently collecting nuts, recounting old stories, and laughing. On this day, the entire village community eats together, and the colourful carpet of leaves beneath their feet gleams in the soft light of dusk. Rosa Immergrün helps out everywhere because she likes her friends and the lively scenes always make her happy.

The lost little nut

Just before the festival, the biggest, most beautiful beech nut disappears! It was supposed to be the centrepiece of the festival today. Great excitement follows, as everyone wants to solve the riddle. The elders of the Buchians are sad, as this nut was meant to bring luck. Many villagers immediately start searching, hoping to find the nut. Some give each other strange glances as they quickly look for suspects.

In the midst of the fog of excitement

As the fog in the beech wood grows thicker, Rosa Immergrün discovers a strange trail in the dew-damp leaves. She follows it, even though her heart beats a little faster. Suddenly, she stands before one of the floating mirrors and sees several images at once: in one, the nutcracker dances on a branch; in another, it hides in a tree hollow. Rosa Immergrün trusts her courage. She decides to follow the silvery light.

In a hollow between two roots, she finally discovers the nut — and sitting next to it is little Buchianer Julo with a sad face. „I just wanted to look at it for a moment because it's so beautiful,“ he says quietly. „Then it fell and rolled away.“

Courage to face the truth

Rosa Immergrün looks kindly at Julo. She knows that sincerity takes courage, especially on such an important day. „You must tell the truth,“ she says encouragingly. „The Buchians are honest and always help each other.“ Together they walk back to the village. Julo trembles a little, but with Rosa Immergrün, he feels stronger.

First, Julo steps forward carefully and tells the story. The Buchians listen, some nodding. The elder smiles. „Whoever is honest earns the trust of the Buchian's beech forest. Thanks to you, Julo, and also to you, Rosa Immergrün, we are celebrating a heartfelt festival today.“ Now the children cheer, because everyone can admire the beautiful beech nut. Nobody scolds, and Julo feels relieved. The festival becomes more joyful than ever before.

What do we learn from this?

In the elongated twilight run of the Neflent Valley, where colours and dreams mingle, the Buchians and Rosa Immergrün have learned something important. Those who stand by their truth and are honest remain strong in their hearts. Courage to face the truth creates friendship, trust, and joy in the beech forest of the Buchians. Celebrating together is twice as much fun!
