The Saudi-led coalition has launched a comprehensive assault on the rebel-held port of Hodeidah in Yemen The coastal city is vital as most aid supplies for people in rebel-controlled regions arrive from here. Aid organisations have warned that the attack could disrupt these supply lines and endanger the lives of up to 200,000 people in the city. Across Yemen, eight million people are already at risk of starvation.
On Wednesday, coalition fighter jets and warships attacked fortifications in the city, while pro-government Yemeni fighters, along with troops from Sudan and the UAE, have gathered in the south. Given the significance of the attack, the following infographic looks at the scale of the Air strikes on Yemen, a campaign that has been ongoing for over three years. The highest number of airstrikes by Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Morocco, and other coalition partners was recorded in September 2015, with a total of 920 airstrikes. By April of this year, there were just under 400.
Reliable statistics on the war in Yemen are notoriously difficult to obtain. This infographic was based on data from Al Jazeera and the Yemen Data Project created, a non-profit organisation that monitors airstrikes in Yemen.
