You might think that this only applies to written content, but that\u2019s far from the truth. Even in the format of a podcast, content comes first. The truth is that having excellent content is a must for a podcast to be successful. The quality of the content you provide will determine whether or not people will continue to listen to your podcast.<\/p>\n<p>You can't always just \u201eimprovise\u201c your podcast content. That might work once or twice, but if you want to be successful in the long term, you need to think about how you shape your podcast content.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few ideas to get you started:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Use a podcast content calendar.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A content calendar, also known as an editorial calendar, is a great way to keep track of your podcast material. You can plan your episodes months (or even years) in advance! A calendar will help ensure you don't run out of topics.<\/p>\n<p>If you need to revisit a topic that you've already covered in your broadcast, you can create a more in-depth episode on the same topic, so that listeners who have already heard the first episode will still find something in the new episode!<\/p>\n<p>A content calendar allows you to view your programme from a bird's eye perspective and check if your episodes are still on track to achieve your original goals.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Write a script or create an outline<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some podcast hosts prefer to read from a script, while others prefer to use an outline. Whichever approach you choose, remember that both help to structure and organise your episode. You'll then have a good idea of what you'll be talking about on your show.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Use a podcast show timer<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A show timer is widely used in radio broadcasts but not so much in podcasts. However, using such a system has numerous benefits. First of all, you know exactly what will happen in every minute of your show.<\/p>\n<p>Let's assume you have a weekly podcast lasting 20 minutes. The first minute of your podcast is dedicated to the intro. In the second minute, you briefly introduce yourself and welcome your listeners to the show. Then, from minutes 3 to 10, you discuss your first topic and from minutes 10 to 19, you discuss the second topic.
