The study is based on a survey of 550 female and male experts on women's issues. The criteria included healthcare, discrimination, cultural traditions, sexual\/non-sexual violence, and human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>After a student was raped and murdered on a bus in Delhi five years ago, efforts to combat violence against women <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/topics\/754\/india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">India<\/a> to a national priority. Experts have now determined that the country is not progressing quickly enough to eliminate the dangers faced by women, as rape, sexual harassment\/molestation and infanticide against women continue at an alarming rate.<\/p>\n<p>The war-torn countries of Afghanistan and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/topics\/2378\/syria\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Syria<\/a> came second and third in the study, whilst the entry at number 10 is certainly a surprise.
