As football fans around the world look forward to the FIFA World Cup<\/a> While fans are excited about a month packed with anticipation, employers are less enthusiastic about their employees being distracted by the daily dose of World Cup drama.
\n64 games in around four weeks offer plenty of scope for distraction, especially when several of these matches kick off during normal working hours. And while casual fans might be content to catch the odd game, die-hard World Cup fans have the ambition to follow every single match, whether it be Brazil versus Germany or Tunisia versus Panama.
\nThe potential impact of the FIFA World Cup on workplace productivity largely depends on the time zone. While bosses in much of Asia and Australia can relax, as matches kick off at night, employers in Brazil should probably go easy on their staff over the next few weeks: due to the time difference, more than 60 World Cup matches will take place during standard working hours in Rio.
